Craft Fairs in the age of COVID-19

As most of you will be aware, lots of craft fairs and similar events have had to be cancelled this year, as they just weren’t safe enough environments during the height of the pandemic.

As the pandemic is still with us, a number of the groups that organise craft fairs have taken the difficult and brave but entirely justifiable decision to hold off from putting on any more craft fairs in 2020.

There are a whole host of factors that go in to a decision such as this, including whether the event would have been indoors or outdoors and how well the venue could be adapted to allow for physical distancing but still provide a viable setting for traders and shoppers alike.

For those of us for whom craft fairs have previously provided our main contact with customers, this has been a strange and difficult year so far, and looks set to continue in the same vein for a while yet.

Thats why I’m so pleased to be able to announce that we‘ll be joining the wonderful folks at Exclusively Highlands for our first event with them in August (29-30th).

If you follow my Facebook page, you'll know I have a bit of a thing for a highland cow!!

In case you aren't already familiar with Exclusively Highlands events, all of the makers, artists and craftspeople who take part are based in or around the Scottish highlands, and all of the goods for sale at the event are handmade locally. Exclusively Highlands itself is a small family-run business based in the highlands who do an amazing job of organising and running very high-quality events full of diverse and incredible crafts and arts.

This event is able to go ahead as it will be fully outdoors and in a venue that’s suitable for adaptation to allow for adequate physical distancing. While at the event, we will be taking a number of additional steps to ensure that you can purchase from us safely, including wiping down each piece of jewellery with a disinfectant wipe before it's put on display, and in between potential customers' handling of the pieces.

Although the event is outdoors, there will be cover over each stall, so hopefully the weather won't be an issue, and it being outdoors does also make it significantly safer than an indoors event.

If you are in or around Inverness, or within day-trip distance, and fancy coming along, we can’t wait to see you there! We’ll be using this event to launch our exclusive new collection of jewellery inspired by a place close to my heart (no spoilers!!) and these will be limited editions, so may not be around for long! After that event we’ll be listing them on this site so watch this space!! We've been working on these designs for a while now, so hopefully you'll love them as much as we do!

Obviously we know that Inverness may be a little far away for many of you to get to, so in light of the fact that we may not have many other craft fairs to show at for the rest of the year, we’re taking steps to make online shopping with us as easy and simple as possible.

To that end, we’ll be undertaking some work on our online shop over the next week or so to streamline it and make it easier to find the products that best fit your needs. We’ll also be making postage and packing within the UK free of charge, and simplifying some of our pricing to make it easier for you to see upfront what the cost of shopping with us will be. Once all of that is complete, we'll post on here and our Facebook page to let you know.

If you’ve previously booked in to one of our workshops, or you’re subscribed to this site, we’ll also be sending you a discount code to use in the shop by way of a thank you for supporting us up to this point.

Hopefully 2021 will see some modicum of normality return and our usual range of craft fairs and workshops going ahead: until then, I hope you and yours stay well and safe.
